Vonitsa is a small town located in a closed bay in a northwestern part of Aetolia-Acarnania.

Outside of the city, along the seashore lays a small forested peninsula with huge eucalyptus (eucalyptus camaldulensis), pines, cypress and some prickly pear trees (opuntia ficus-indica). It's a very quite and pleasant place to walk and stay for a while.

Beneath the eucalyptus stands an old post-byzantine chapel called Naos Panagias (Virgin Mary's temple) not visible in the panorama.

In front of the small church there's a nightclub that really spoils and damages the site. At night the place becomes a noisy loud hell fulled with cars. It has was removed in 2008 : I was happy to see that people in Vonitsa were becoming aware of this blunder, that they could have been mistaken so deeply for such a long time, and finally made the things right. But unfortunately this club was rebuilt later! I don't know exactly when : I didn't go back to Vonitsa in 2009 nor in 2010.

One can hardly imagine and understand why such things are made possible breaking definitively the magic of such a peaceful place.
