While holidaying this summer in Cornwall, one of the places my family and I wanted to visit was the Eden Project. While looking into the place we found that during the summer months they did something they called “Jungle Days / Jungle Nights”. During the daytime the place was like normal, but it was when the sun went down things changed. The two major structures at the Eden Project are their biomes (very large greenhouse domes). The humid biome is like a rainforest or a tropical island inside while the warm temperate biome is like the Mediterranean, South Africa or California. Each is filled with plants from their associated regions.

Jungle night’s takes place in the humid biome, once the sun sets they illuminate the pathways with small lights leaving the rest in near darkness. They then proceed to play night time jungle sounds to give the full jungle effect. For adults walking through it was fun, but for my 5 year old daughter it was magical. For working out which biome is which in the panorama, the humid is the darker of the two on the left.

Because this panorama was shot at night it resulted in needing 8 second exposures, luckily people didn’t move too much. The length of exposure and shooting at night then highlighted the problem of more than normal hot pixels in the picture, this took me a while to correct. I took the panorama not knowing how it would turn out, but after putting it together I was really glad I did. It is for this reason I decided to choose this as my "Best of 2005".
