Bethlehem had its name choosen on Christmas Eve 1741 by its first Moravian settlers. They met that Christmas Eve in the "first house" a crude cabin. This site is now occupied by Hotel Bethlehem that was commisioned by Charles M. Schwab, the president of Bethlehem Steel in its heyday. The historic Hotel Bethlehem has been restored to its original 1922 grandeur. Floor-to-ceiling palladium windows provide damatic views of the historic shopping district. Colonial notables George Washington and Benjamin Franklin would have walked where this panorama was made.
